Rhonda Avery

Originally from Melbourne, I made the big move to far flung Robinvale to become a teacher.

My interest and passion for Art began early in Primary school , and at home – I was always drawing. At High School, I studied Art through to Matric, and then majored in Art (Print making) at  Toorak Teacher’s College. I gained honours in the subject and while on a teaching round, made the decision to be a Specialist Art Teacher. This led to my arrival at Robinvale and 10 years of teaching Art and Craft to the children at the Consolidated School.

Family life, with children of my own, a winegrape property, boarding school visits, and part time jobs, all intervened in my own art activities, over the following years.

The empty nest situation, then allowed me the time to begin to rediscover my interest in Art and so I began some classes with TAFE Outreach  from Mildura, under the tuition of Steve Hederics. These classes continued for quite a few years.

During these years, many varied and interesting experiences have all challenged and helped me to grow as an artist. Overseas travel, many workshops, Summer School at Charles Sturt Uni (Bathurst), community projects (Bollards, Commonwealth Games Archway) and constant contact with like minded souls from both Robinvale, Swan Hill and surrounding areas, have provided stimulation and motivation to me.

My style is expressive rather than realistic, using a variety of media, including pastel, line and wash, oils and mixed media, to enable me to try to illustrate the ideas and forms that I am representing. Drawing is still my strength, and is a great standby when attempting my projects.
